Research report: Understanding the impact of a transition to net-zero on communities in Dublin
Zero Together, in partnership with Think-tank for Action on Social Change (TASC), has published new research exploring the ways that vulnerable communities in Dublin may be affected by the energy transition and how they can be supported to take action going forward.
Transitioning to net zero will require changes across all levels of society. Some communities are more equipped for this transition than others. In order to achieve a fair and just transition to a low-carbon Dublin, it is essential that no community is left behind. Identifying where these communities are, and understanding their needs, will allow policymakers to better support the most vulnerable through the transition.
Through a mapping exercise, the research identifies communities across Dublin who are most likely to be negatively impacted by the transition to net zero. To better understand the needs of people in these areas, interviews and focus groups were conducted with members of the communities, exploring the ways that they feel the necessary changes will impact on their lives.
Using the findings from this engagement, the report provides recommendations on how communities can be supported through the energy transition, and how to best engage communities on this issue in the future.
