Collaboration

Zero Together is particularly unique as it has been collaborative from the very start. In 2021, motivated individuals from across a range of sectors in Dublin joined the Zero Together Transition Team. This team, made up of over 20 people, represented academia, community groups, energy, transport, public bodies and NGOs.
Over an 18 month period the team engaged in a series of workshops to build consensus on a shared vision, identify barriers facing the Dublin region in reducing emissions and discuss key SMART goals and actions to overcome these barriers. In total, this group spent over 30 hours deliberating and building consensus on a shared vision and roadmap to move Dublin away from fossil fuels as soon as possible.
Collaboration is central to Zero Together as it is widely agreed that no single organisation, individual or sector can fully transform Dublin into a clean, healthy and emission-free region. We need to work together.
Zero Together is creating a space for the necessary organisations, communities, individuals and decision-makers to come together to address the barriers to reducing Dublin’s emissions and accelerate action across the county. By doing so, we can create and realise a vision and strategy for Dublin that is ambitious and more importantly, inclusive. Hear from some of the team below and read more about this collaborative process by downloading our summary report here.
With the myriad of climate policies, initiatives, and projects now coming on stream, as well as the intensifying of climate breakdown, Zero Together can help make sense of this landscape and play a critical role in the necessary shift from intent to action. Zero Together also has the opportunity to provide a much-needed space for a new approach to climate action, that provides a more democratic approach, and that breaks through existing barriers and silos.

Working as part of the Zero Together team was hugely rewarding. It is rare that such a diverse and talented group of individuals in the field of climate action get the opportunity to share their experience and knowledge towards a common goal. I am hopeful that the outputs from our group will be of value to the wider Dublin community and will help other groups and communities embarking on their own climate action journey.

I have been impressed by the approach Codema has taken in designing Zero Together. I hope that my input helps ensure that everyone in the greater Dublin region has a say in designing and implementing a sustainable vision that ensures the wellbeing of current and future generations. I also hope that Dublin will be an exemplary prototype for local authorities throughout the country.
